I am Deputy News Editor at New Scientist, where I also run the biomedical news team. I have previously written for The Guardian, The Observer, The Sunday Telegraph, Mosaic, BBC Focus, Times Higher Education, among others. Before joining New Scientist, I was a reporter at the science policy magazines Research Fortnight and Research Europe.

I have a degree in biological sciences and a doctorate in plant evolutionary developmental genetics from the University of Oxford. In 2011 I was awarded the Guardian & Observer/Wellcome Trust Science Writing Prize.
